With the present state of our economy, we thought we would take this opportunity, as a valued client and friend of our firm, to inform and warn against fraudulent predators, not only mortgage-related, but in general.
One of our own family members was recently scammed. He is an elderly man, 89 years of age, and was contacted in response to what he thought was a Publisher’s Clearing House type entry, whereby the caller informed him he had won a prize of hundreds of thousands of dollars. There was one catch. He had to wire cash via Western Union to a “company” and then a package containing a check would be released to him.
Embarrassingly, he wired nearly $3,000.00, whereupon he was called for more money. The caller told him that the package was ready to be released, but they needed an additional $9,000.00. At this point, he realized he was scammed.
The State of Florida is fielding thousands of calls daily. Please do not fall prey to scammers. If someone wants money up front, it is most definitely a scam. As the saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it usually is. For further information regarding scams, the following is a link to the Florida Attorney General office’s homepage:
Also, as you know, we have specialized in personal injury/wrongful death cases for nearly 30 years. In this economy, we have seen an uptick of lawyers who cannot make a living any longer in real estate or corporate law, and are crossing over to personal injury law, pretending to handle personal injury cases. You see it every day on television commercials; new law firms popping up. In hiring a personal injury lawyer, the first question a person should ask is how long this attorney has been representing personal injury victims.
If you have had an accident or have any accident-related questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Go with experience. Go with someone you can trust. We have been and always will be there for you.
