On August 1st and 2nd, beginning at 7:00pm, the debates for the Republican and Democratic primary races for Florida Governor will be held at the campus of the University of Miami’s Maurice Gusman Concert Hall. They are being held less than a month before the August 28th primary. The one-hour debates will be in front of a live audience of 600 people and will broadcast statewide on 10 major television stations.
It is not yet known who will attend the debate but former Congresswoman Gwen Graham, former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum are rumored to lead the primary race for the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side, the rumored leads are Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, Congressman Ron DeSantis, and House Speaker Richard Corcoran, who has yet to declare his candidacy.
Current Governor Rick Scott has reached his term limits and is expected to run for U.S. Senate, leaving the seat open to new prospective candidates. Scott is expected to make his big announcement on April 9th.
